Top Considerations and Steps in Seamless Digital Transformation, Part 5
Earlier parts of this series highlighted the value of planning, people, and governance in digitalisation. Let’s wrap things up with an intelligent solution that can streamline this process – digital twins.
Insights and Innovation via Digital Twins
Digital twins leverage numerous data sources and machine learning to simulate various contexts and circumstances, thereby making predictions based on an analysis of key insights. For example, the Digital Twin Victoria program is a $37.4 million investment in digital twin technology, geospatial data, and spatial innovation. The four-year project aims to facilitate innovation and collaboration between government, industry, and the community through shared open data, technology, and algorithms.

Digital Twin Victoria brings together new foundational, high-quality datasets, advanced technical capability, and intelligent analytics to deliver accurate 3D visualisation and simulations. It also includes a DTV platform to deliver an extensive catalogue of open data from across local, state, and federal government to power an integrated visualisation service.
This program is designed to fast-track smarter cities and regions. Simplifying the access and use of historical data to better prepare for future events and track changes over time in a more collaborative and technologically advanced way.
Building through collaboration
It's also exciting to see other State Government Departments building on lessons learned from this innovative project, carving their own way to meet local challenges. This can be seen with the South-East Queensland Digital Twins Program, which includes meeting regional needs alongside the opportunity of enabling a climate-positive Olympics Games for Brisbane in 2032 through advanced data analytics and cross-industry partnerships.

That's the real power of digital twins – facilitating more seamless collaboration across stakeholders while future-proofing different stakeholders through advanced analytics, comprehensive insights, and simulation capabilities that aggregate vast amounts of data into useful resources for scenario modelling, emergency management, planning and investment, and data-backed decision making.
Data is a critical component of digital transformation, not only a business' ability to source, verify, and store data; but also the power of analysing and leveraging data to make accurate predictions and forge stronger bonds across different departments and partners.

Conclusion
Seamless digitalisation requires buy-in from various stakeholders alongside the necessary infrastructure and policies to support change, but it always comes down to users – after all, it's the people that implement transformation and ensure its ongoing success, which is why data is vital in ensuring their understanding, helping them make informed decisions, and ultimately drive insightful and innovative change.
